Here are my common book recommendations, organized by subject. All links direct to Amazon. This list is by no means exhaustive, it’s just a list of the books I find myself recommending again and again for various reasons. If you want more, which I certainly would, here’s everything I read in 2017.
Female Health + Wellness
How your diet and lifestyle affect your hormones, and how those hormones affect your day-to-day life and body. This books gives you a 4-Day Hormone Detox Cleanse, as well as a protocol called “Cycle Syncing,” where you eat, exercise, and plan your life around your hormone cycles. Fascinating stuff, and my #1 recommended book if you have ANY issues with your period. This book has changed my life. If you are a woman, read this book!
Everything menstruation and female health. This is a tomb of information about your period, birth control, hormones, and how to get WAY in tune with your body to predict your cycle/fertility! This book also walks you through the science and practicality of using natural birth control, ie simply listening to your body and looking for specific/measurable signs. Highly recommend for any woman looking to get off The Pill.
Nutrition + Dietary Theory
A science-backed knowledge bomb! All about the science of nutrition and how a whole foods, plant-based (WFPB) diet is optimal for long-term health. Learn all about the latest research in the field, and finally understand how other diets stack up against whole foods, plant-based eating. A must-read for anyone curious about nutrition.
What are all the vitamins and minerals (micronutrients) for? Why do we need them, and how much of each? Where do they come from, anyway? This book has it all, along with much more. I love this reference guide to all things vitamins and minerals.
If you have digestive issues like IBS, Chron’s Disease, or celiac disease, this book can help you get to the bottom of it. This book is all about managing digestive disorders through dietary choices. Includes a wealth of information, along with recipes to help you on your journey. This is my go-to resource for clients with possible food intolerances.
Cookbooks (Vegan + Vegetarian)
I’m really picky about recommending cookbooks. There are so many average and just okay books out there, but these are pure gold. I return back to them again and again.
I can’t give enough praise about this book! Literally, every single recipe is amazing. It is probably my all-time favorite cookbook because the recipes are creative, inspiring, healthy, and super tasty. Love how the author doesn’t use “filler” recipes that are obvious (like who needs another salad recipe? not me!)
An absolute gem of a cookbook! Beautiful photography, and an unusual selection of recipes. All vegetarian, and many use veggies you might otherwise overlook. This book DOES contain recipes for dairy, but even if you are vegan this book is well worth buying.
Yoga + Meditation
This book will change how you see the world. This book is not about asana (the physical practice of yoga), but rather about the spiritual, mental and meditative components of yoga. This is the one and only book that Steve Jobs had on his iPad.
This book gives lots of real-life examples as well as the science behind habit change and “keystone” simple habits that have ripple effects into the rest of our life. Excellent read for anyone interested in permanent habit change!
Beat procrastination, get motivated to finally tackle your creative endeavors, stop making excuses for why shit isn’t getting done! This book talks about the difference between a professional and amateur when it comes to your art, whatever that might be. It helps get you in the mindset to take yourself seriously as an artist and professional. Very motivating!
This book is about more than just tidying up. It’s about how our environments not only affect our mental states and our life but also how they reflect back to us who we are at the core. An incredible book that helps us get rid of the shit we don’t truly LOVE or NEED. If you are into minimalism, organization or personal growth, read this book!
This book is packed with actionable tips on how to grow your “willpower muscle” and improve your overall drive to get things done. Every page and every chapter is filled with science-backed psychological research on what works and why. Highly recommend for anyone who struggles with habit change, procrastination, or life in general. A must read!
Wellpreneur: The Ultimate Guide for Wellness Entrepreneurs to Nail Your Niche and Find Clients Online
This book changed the way I look at my to-do list and the way I tackle business objectives. It encourages you to ask yourself: what is the ONE thing you can do such that by doing it everything else becomes easier or unnecessary? Focus on that one thing today.
What are your favorite books? I’m always on the hunt for a good read. Please share!
