In culinary school we learned to never buy a kitchen gadget or appliance unless it had multiple purposes.
When it comes to what I keep in my kitchen, I am a minimalist and kind of a snob. I either want the best or nothing at all! The more you cook, the more you come to appreciate (and demand!) quality tools.
I am often asked what kitchen stuff I use, so I made this list.
These are some of my favorite must-have kitchen gadgets and small appliances. I personally own and use all of these products on a daily or weekly basis.

Wusthof Knife Set I have the 6-piece set that includes a sharpener, kitchen sheers and a bread knife, but if you’re not ready for that level of commitment, check out the equally fine classic 2-piece set, which is the same quality. In culinary school the only 2 required knifes were a chef knife and a pairing knife. You really can do everything in the kitchen with just those 2! The important thing is that you have quality knives that handle well! In my 10+ years experience, Wusthof is my favorite brand. It’s also the most bang for your buck.
Dual Lemon/Lime Squeezer With 2 sized fittings (but still 1 gadget), this is useful for juicing lemons and limes of all sizes. This thing is what FINALLY convinced me to juice all my own lemons and limes instead of resorting to concentrate. Heavy-duty and easy to use and clean. I love this thing.
Digital Food Scale I use this for my meal prep delivery business to evenly portion meals, but it’s also great for baking and other meal prep! I can’t believe I used to “eyeball” everything. This scale is a life saver, and taught me a lot about what various portion sizes look like (e.g. do you know what 4oz of beans looks like?)
Immersion Blender This is a must-have if you make any kind of pureed soups or sauces in bulk. I used to use my Blendtec blender for this, but it’s so messy pouring between pot and blender. An immersion blender is a tool that blends right in your pot, even on the stove! Love this thing. I use it for all my soups and creamy cheese sauces (like this one).
Blendtec Total Blender Classic I’ve had this since 2009 and swear by it. I use this to make all my rice flours, bean flours, lentil flours, oat flours (you get the idea…), smoothies, dressings, and sauces. It’s also great for soups (it mixes so fast it literally heats your food!), doughs (there is a dough setting that kneeds your bread!) and batters.
Cuisinart 11-Cup Food Processor I use this almost daily. From hummus to pesto to banana ice cream, it does it all! It even has attachments to grate your carrots and slice your zucchini. This thing is my baby and I wouldn’t settle for anything less. The blades did go through a recall, but the replacement blades kick ass and I’ve had zero trouble since. Still the best food processor on the market.
Tribest Greenstar Elite Juicer This is the best juicer on the market unless you want to get into the commercial appliances. A slow masticating juicer, it extracts the highest possible quantity of juice from all your fruits and veggies, and the juice lasts up to 3 days in the refrigerator. This is what I use for my juice fasts.
